Louisville Kentucky

As Kentucky's largest city, Louisville is jam packed with entertainment and cultural attractions that draw in many tourists every single year. Perhaps most famous for being the site of the Kentucky Derby, Louisville is about more than just horses though. Whether you enjoy baseball, history, learning about new things or just strolling around an interesting city, Louisville is a fantastic place to go while on a vacation. Families with small children will also find plenty to keep themselves occupied in this quintessential southern town.

Attending the Kentucky Derby can be difficult, since it is a once a year event and tickets sell at a premium. However, visitors are always welcome to visit Churchill Downs, where the Derby is held. There is a great museum here where one can learn all sorts of interesting facts and history about the famous sporting event. In addition to the exhibits in the museum, visitors can step down onto the winner's circle and take in how it must feel to bask in the glory of winning the Kentucky Derby. This attraction is definitely great for the whole family, and is a way to really see what this town is all about....read more »

Louisville Kentucky

Sometimes called the biggest small town in America, Louisville is (literally and figuratively) at the crossroads of the urban north and rural south.

The 16th largest city in America is like no place else in Kentucky, an odd mixture of southern values and progressive ideas. The outlaying areas of Louisville are sprawling suburbs more slanted to the southern way of life, while the urban area is a northern metropolis waiting to happen.

Home to a vibrant underground music scene and burgeoning art community, Louisville of course also hosts the Kentucky Derby and two week celebration surrounding the event.

It is also the home of what many in the widwest call "little Burbon Street", Baxter Avenue. Situated at the northern end of the Highlands neighborhood, the four block stretch of Baxter Avenue boasts 16 bars. The Highlands in total holds over 40, all of which are open till 4am. The epicenter of this neighborhood (and Louisville's cultural scene) is Bardstown Road, a one mile stretch of odd shops and art galleries.
